what is sustainability

What is sustainability? I think that sustainability is such a flexible word. It can pertain to many things but when I think of it, I tend to think in reference to the environment. Sustainability is keeping or maintaining a certain state or way. For the environment, we want to maintain a sort of homeostasis. I say this meaning getting it to where it is "healthy" and livable. Although sustaining the environment means working to keep it the way it is, sustainability can also mean the methods by which are taken to improve the environment. Once we achieve the health and state of the environment we wish to see it in, then we can "sustain" the environment and maintain it at a desirable state of health. Methods of sustaining the environment range from not littering, to carpooling, to decreasing the amount of waste you produce daily. I think that the only way we can really help the environment and improve its well-being is through social achievement. A large amount of people wanting to help our environment is needed in order for it to happen. I hope classes such as this and students like us who advocate the health of our environment can persuade others the importance of keeping our environment healthy and safe. With more people coming together to sustain the environment, we can positively improve our world and make a considerable dent in the efforts towards improvements.
